Or r u kewl with wat has happened to our written language as the result of abbreviated words to make text messaging more efficient? Is there a difference between your texting style and your writing style?
I don't punctuate when I text. I've also found myself using abt. instead of about in regular writing. It saves 1 letter keystroke. Rather lazy, indeed. (as was the prior verb deficient sentence).
So? How much does grammar matter to you?
Sound off...
I use the Oxford comma in my writing. I think it is very useful for clarification purposes in many instances. As for being a stickler for grammar, I personally am most of the time. I don't really text much, and when I do, I use very few abbreviations. In fact, when my son texts me, I often ask him what some of them mean!
ReplyDeleteI stick with grammar rules usuallyl. But in texting, I'm slowly learning it's ok to not capitalize "I" when referring to myself. I also have been known to slip in a few "u"s and "r"s, as in, "where r u" (to teens age 15). But I hate this language abuse. I really hate all the decoding that goes into reading a text too. I like to capitalize and use periods. See?
